Late Friday, New Braunfels Utilities announced its customers would see interim adjustments in the Power Cost Recovery Adjustment, or PCRA, portion of their electricity bill for August and September while electric usage is high.

Effective Monday through Sept. 30, NBU customers will see a 2.1 cents per kilowatt hour reduction in the PCRA portion of their bill. Overall that represents an 11.95% reduction in the electric portion of the bill.

As far as I know, NBU doesn't generate it's own electricity. It buys it from an electrical market. Has NBU made deals to pay this market a higher price for electricity than other utilities are paying? I believe the answer may be yes, and NBU is passing this off to its customers, while using other problems as an excuse to cover some very bad decisions. Why not ask NBU about this? I'd love to see an article that compares what NBU is paying for electricity compared to what other utilities are paying.

is the HZ planning to do an investigative piece on this topic? I cannot reconcile is other Public Utilities that were equally hit with Feb 2021 freeze and the high cost of providing electricity this Summer are not hitting their customers this hard. I am a PEC customer, and we have a recovery fee that is in place since Oct 2021 with a statement to last no more than 24 months -- this is a per kh fee but it is NO WHERE near what friends/family with NBU are experiencing. PEC website said they were hit with ~160M cost in Feb 2021 which is higher than NBU but cost recovery approach is significantly different- Why? Can you please explain why GVEC customers are not seeing these spikes, PEC customers, etc. What is different with NBU? Can you please explain it in a comparison format --not just reporting using NBU talking points.
